President Visits Defence Services Staff College
- President Smt Droupadi Murmu visited the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington in The Nilgiris District, Tamil Nadu on November 28, 2024.
- Addressing the student officers and faculty, the President said the DSSC has made commendable contribution to training & educating the potential leaders of the Armed Forces of India and friendly countries & selected civilian officers.
- Established in 1948, DSSC is a premier Tri-services institute with a mandate to train and hone their skills of selected middle-level officers of the Armed Forces of India and friendly countries. Since its inception, the College has trained more than 2,000 International Officers, and 24,000 Indian Officers have passed through its portals.
Indian Army Launches ‘Eklavya’ Online Digital Platform
- General Upendra Dwivedi launched an online learning platform for the Indian Army nicknamed as “Eklavya”.
- This initiative aligns with the Indian Army propelling itself into the “Decade of Transformation” as envisioned by the COAS and also with Indian Army’s theme for 2024 as the “Year of Technology Absorption.”
- The platform has been developed at zero cost through “Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geoinformatics” Gandhinagar, along with support from Directorate General of Information Systems.
- This platform has been hosted on the Army Data Network and features a scalable architecture. This enables Headquarters Army Training Command to seamlessly integrate any number of training establishments of the Indian Army, each capable of hosting an extensive range of courses.
K-4 Ballistic Missile Test
- In a game-changing move, India has tested its K-4 missile from newly commissioned nuclear-powered submarine INS Arighaat on Wednesday.
- This nuclear-capable submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), which has a strike range of 3,500 km, makes India’s nuclear deterrence credible for hostile countries.
- Only six countries in the world have submarines which are nuclear powered as well as can launch nuclear missiles: the US, Russia, China, France, the UK and India. Such a submarine is called SSBN (Ship, Submersible, Ballistic, Nuclear).
- India’s first SSBN, INS Arihant, became fully operational in 2018, while the second, INS Arighaat, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in August this year.
- The K-4 test adds long-range nuclear firepower to INS Arighaat. Its forerunner INS Arihant is armed only with 750-km range K-15 missiles while K-4 has a range of 3,500 km.
India, Russia Explore Joint Production Of Sukhoi Engine
- India and Russia are exploring the possibility of jointly manufacturing engines for Sukhoi fighter jets, people familiar with the matter said, adding that the chairman and managing director of state-run HAL, DK Sunil, is visiting Russia ahead of defence minister Rajnath Singh’s Moscow visit from December 8-10.
- Sunil is in Russia reportedly for clinching a deal for licensed manufacturing of 240 AL-31FP aero engines for Su-30MKI fighter jets presently in service with the Indian Air Force. The twin-engine Su-30MKI are due for upgrade to enhance their operational lives.
- Recently, HAL secured a contract worth ₹26,000 crore (about $3.1 billion) for the supply of 240 AL-31FP engines for Su-30MKI fighter jets, which are integral to India’s air force fleet.
24 Ships, 40 Aircraft To Propel Indian Navy Power Show In Puri
- The Indian Navy is all set to put up a grand show of its maritime might and capabilities on the sea along Blue Flag Beach in Puri on December 4.
- The date is celebrated as Navy Day every year to commemorate Indian Navy’s triumph in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and acknowledge its achievements over the decades.
- This will be the first ever Navy Day celebrations in Puri which is not a naval station. The Supreme Commander of Indian Armed Forces and President Droupadi Murmu will witness the ‘Operational Demonstration’ of the Navy at the Blue Flag Beach along with a multitude of dignitaries and the general public.
- Defence sources said, at least 24 warships and 40 aircrafts including helicopters and fighter jets will demonstrate the Navy’s maritime capabilities and operational strength through water and aerial maneuvers and other exercises.
Exercise Vajra Prahar 2024
- The 15th edition of Exercise Vajra Prahar 2024 being held at Orchid Combat Training Centre in Idaho, USA concluded on 23 November 2024.
- During the Exercise, the contingents rubbed shoulders and rehearsed planning Joint Team Missions, Reconnaissance Missions, Employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems, Execution of Special #Operations, #Sniper Training and Aspects of Psychological Warfare in Special Operations.
- Vajra Prahar 2024 has strengthened interoperability, enhanced military cooperation and improved the operational skills of the Special Forces of the Indian Army and the US Army.
