Drop out rate is alarmingly high for such a basic course. The main reason is RAGDA; mostly given by senior cadets to the juniors and which often turns into sadistic pleasure for them. The military trg is to prepare for that one day when his body and mind belongs to the nation. Those dropouts don’t have in them. The NDA trg has evolved over the past 75 yrs and it continues to evolve.

Ragging ought to be healthy and not in the spirit of vengeance. There are ways to promote physical fitness of which the leadership is well aware. I passed out from NDA in Dec 1961 and was the first from the family to opt for a career in the Services. Did not once think of quitting. I feel the quality of instructor’s posted needs a review. The NDA is a fine institution imparting a very high standard of training, however, it is alarming to note that 20 percent from each course opt to leave. The situation merits introspection.
