The prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, hosted its Autumn Term 2024 Passing Out Parade (POP) on December 14, 2024. The event marked the commissioning of 491 Gentleman Cadets (GCs), including 35 from Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs), with two cadets representing Nepal.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Nepali Army, Suprabal Janasewashree General Ashok Raj Sigdel, graced the occasion as the Reviewing Officer. General Sigdel congratulated the newly commissioned officers and praised the cadets for their immaculate turnout, precision, and dedication during the parade, which showcased the rigorous training imparted by IMA.

Celebrating Excellence and International Bonds

Addressing the gathering, General Sigdel shared his personal connection to the Indian Military Academy, reminiscing about his own commissioning 37 years ago. He quoted the ancient Indian strategist Chanakya, emphasizing, “Your Karma will decide your future,” urging the cadets to trust in their actions and merit over mere credentials.

The Reviewing Officer also commended the enduring partnership between the Indian and Nepali Armies, highlighting the fact that more than 200 Nepali cadets have graduated from IMA, many of whom rose to high ranks, including four Chiefs of the Army Staff of the Nepali Army.

General Sigdel extended his gratitude to General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army, and the Government of India for the honor of reviewing the parade, especially in his capacity as an Honorary General of the Indian Army—a distinction reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
