The US Department of Defense has announced a series of substantial contracts awarded to Oshkosh Defense for the provision of military trucks to the United States Army, with the total value of these contracts amounting to approximately $214.8 million. The new contracts are aimed at enhancing combat support and logistics capabilities across various theatres of operation, emphasizing the importance of reliable ground transport for military operations.
Among the key components of the contracts are the M1093 and M1081 vehicles, which are specifically designed as Low Velocity Air Drop systems. These vehicles can be transported by military aircraft like the C-17 Globemaster III and C-130 Hercules, allowing them to be parachute-dropped directly into operational areas. The contract for these vehicles is valued at $133 million and is expected to be completed by September 2027.
Additionally, the contracts include the Family of Medium Trucks, which are engineered to facilitate the movement of soldiers, ammunition, equipment, and smaller vehicles. Approximately $43.6 million has been earmarked for this particular contract, with an anticipated completion date set for December 2026.
Another significant aspect of the awarded contracts is a modification related to the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles. This modification, which carries a price tag of $23.3 million, is part of a broader initiative that previously allocated $1.54 billion for new and recapitalized heavy tactical hulls and associated trailers, with an operational timeline extending to 2031.
Lastly, the Pentagon has committed $14.8 million towards a separate batch of the Family of Medium Trucks dedicated to military use, with supplies expected to continue until August 2026.
These new contracts underline the Department of Defense’s ongoing commitment to upgrading and maintaining the functionality and readiness of the US Army’s ground transportation capabilities, ensuring that troops are well-equipped to meet the challenges they face in contemporary military engagements.
