At the International Defence Exhibition & Conference 2025 in the United Arab Emirates, the Estonian-Croatian defense startup Vegvisir has launched its innovative Virtual Command Station, which is set to redefine command and control (C2) operations in military environments.
This advanced system has been engineered for rapid deployment and is particularly suited for mobile, temporary, and confined operational settings, including armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Its core components consist of head-mounted virtual screens, the Vegvisir Visor AR headset, the Vegvisir Mission Grip, and a mission computer, creating a compact and efficient command station where traditional configurations may fall short.
The Virtual Command Station was developed in collaboration with the Estonian Defence Forces and takes cues from the experiences gained during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This real-world feedback has informed the design process, ensuring that the system meets the demanding requirements of modern warfare while maintaining a low footprint and high mobility.
One of the standout features of the Virtual Command Station is its ability to enhance situational awareness for warfighters. The system supports multi-user collaboration and integrates real-time data from various sources, including battle management systems, sensors, and unmanned systems. This integrated approach enables warfighters to operate with an improved understanding of the battlefield, allowing for better decision-making in critical situations.
Vegvisir’s technological innovation captures the strengths of previous systems, merging them into a cohesive platform. The Vegvisir Core enables a see-through-armor capability for manned systems, while the Vegvisir Remote extends this first-person view feature to unmanned and optionally manned platforms. CEO Ingvar Pärnamäe emphasized the system’s role in advancing fleet management and multi-domain integration, noting the company’s confidence in its market potential.
The Vegvisir Visor AR headset, weighing a mere 120 grams, is an essential component of the command station. It provides each user with full HD stereo displays in each eye and boasts an impressive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, significantly reducing latency and motion blur—factors critical in fast-paced military scenarios. Ergonomically designed with comfort in mind, the headset includes a diopter adjustment for personalized display focus, and its lenses meet ANSI Z87.1 standards for hazard protection, including safeguards against UVA, UVB, and UVC rays, as well as anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings.
Complementing the headset is the Vegvisir Mission Grip, a controller known for its ergonomic and ambidextrous design. This controller further enhances the system’s capabilities by supporting additional sensors and system extensions, making it a versatile tool for command coordination in the field.
With the unveiling of the Virtual Command Station, Vegvisir positions itself at the forefront of defense technology, offering both platform manufacturers and defense forces a forward-looking approach to modern military operations.
