Ukraine Deploys Homegrown 'Seth' Drone Resembling Iranian Shahed on the Frontlines

Ukraine has introduced a new unmanned aerial system (UAS) called the “Seth,” designed to enhance its capabilities on the front lines against Russian forces. This domestically developed drone mirrors the design and operational use of the Iranian-made Shahed drones that Russia has been employing in its military tactics. The Seth UAS features a tailless delta-wing architecture, similar to the Shahed-136 kamikaze drone, which is known in its Russian iteration as the “Geran 2.”

These drones have been deployed specifically by the “Azov” 12th Special Operations Brigade, a unit within the Ukrainian National Guard, at the Toretsk front—a site of intense conflict. The first batch of Seth drones has been supplied by the Come Back Alive Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting Ukraine during its ongoing struggle.

The introduction of the Seth UAS signifies a strategic advancement for Ukraine, particularly as the country continues to face significant aerial threats from Russian forces, including the widespread use of combat drones. The Ukrainian military’s adaptation and innovation in developing their own unmanned systems are indicative of the shifting dynamics in modern warfare, where drone technology plays a pivotal role.

As the need for effective and low-cost drones becomes increasingly critical on the battlefield, the Seth UAS represents Ukraine’s response to the challenges posed by adversarial aerial capabilities. The deployment aims not only to enhance operational effectiveness but also to sustain morale among Ukrainian troops as they navigate the complexities of the conflict.

The move underscores Ukraine’s commitment to leveraging homegrown technologies to counteract enemy tactics, suggesting that as the conflict evolves, so too will the strategies employed by both sides in the ongoing struggle for dominance in the region.
