Military technology developer MilDef has secured a significant contract to supply ruggedized cybersecurity equipment for the CV90 tracked armored combat vehicles produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds. The project is valued at 40 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to approximately $3.9 million, and aims to enhance the vehicles’ defenses against adversarial network attacks.
As part of this initiative, MilDef will provide hardware network solutions that may encompass its small form factor radios, handheld devices, communication electronics, and displays. This equipment will be integrated into the CV90 fleet as part of an ongoing contract previously awarded to Swedish defense contractor Clavister in December of the prior year.
The project details outline the incorporation of “cyber armor” into the CV90 vehicles, which will leverage Clavister’s advanced security gateway and secure network switch capabilities designed to operate effectively in complex operational environments. The timeline for this broader initiative indicates that work will commence in the latter half of 2025 and extend until 2029.
John Vestberg, CEO of Clavister, commented on the collaboration, highlighting the strong relationship between Clavister and MilDef, where cutting-edge cyber software merges with robust hardware solutions. He emphasized, “In times of increased digitization of the armed forces, there is a clear need for significantly increased cybersecurity. For us, MilDef is the perfect partner in the work of equipping the defense capability of the future.”
This contract is part of MilDef’s expanding portfolio of cybersecurity and communication systems for military applications. Just last November, the company was awarded a similar contract to deploy rugged command and control systems for the Swedish Armed Forces. Additionally, in October, MilDef signed a separate agreement to provide IT equipment to BAE Systems’ CV90 offering, which was subsequently employed by both the Danish Armed Forces for artillery systems and the Swedish military’s weapon systems.
Earlier in August, the company also supplied rugged computers fitting for use in the CV90 vehicles that are currently utilized by the Norwegian Armed Forces. With these contracts, MilDef continues to solidify its position as a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions in the defense sector, addressing the growing demand for secure communication systems amidst rising digital threats.
