In a significant move aimed at enhancing defense capabilities, the Danish company Weibel Scientific has announced a strategic collaboration with Estonian firm DefSecIntel Solutions. This partnership focuses on the integration of advanced radar technology with cutting-edge counter-drone systems, thereby bolstering both companies’ foothold in critical defense markets, particularly in Ukraine, European procurement, and NATO security initiatives.
As part of this collaboration, Weibel’s sophisticated X-band radar systems will be incorporated into DefSecIntel’s state-of-the-art counter-drone and ultra-short-range air defense system known as EIRSHIELD. This integration is geared towards ensuring that European defense solutions are both independent and innovative, tailored specifically to meet the real operational needs of the region, according to Jaanus Tamm, CEO of DefSecIntel Solutions.
To expedite the integration process, a dedicated research and technology development team will be established, facilitating quicker and more cost-effective production of these advanced defense systems. Peter Røpke, CEO at Weibel Scientific, emphasized that this partnership opens avenues for the company to leverage its expertise within a comprehensive defense ecosystem, ultimately culminating in scalable and highly effective solutions that can address both European and global defense challenges.
Weibel’s radar systems, known for their effectiveness, utilize various technologies including X-band Continuous Wave (CW), Multi-Frequency CW, and Frequency Modulated CW. These systems come in diverse configurations, ranging from portable units that can be operated by two personnel to larger installations that can be mounted on trailers, ships, or land vehicles. The radar technology is capable of tracking a wide array of targets in real-time, including small and medium-caliber projectiles, artillery shells, mortars, rockets, missiles, and various aerial threats such as helicopters and drones.
On the other hand, DefSecIntel’s EIRSHIELD system is designed as a mobile, all-terrain solution tailored to counter aerial threats. It incorporates an array of advanced sensors and effectors, enabling it to detect, track, and neutralize hostile targets with precision. The EIRSHIELD system is adept at identifying and monitoring both multirotor and fixed-wing drones. Furthermore, it can disrupt communications through jamming radio frequencies and Global Navigation Satellite System signals. In combating airborne threats, EIRSHIELD employs artificial intelligence-assisted interceptor drones or can utilize hard-kill effectors to engage and neutralize these threats directly.
