In a historic first for the city, Ranchi witnessed a spectacular aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) at the Army Ground in Namkum. The event took place with the guidance of Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth and received support from both military and civil administrations. This breathtaking 45-minute show not only highlighted the precision of the Indian Air Force but also served as an inspirational moment for the residents of Ranchi and, particularly, the youth of Jharkhand.
The air show featured nine Hawk aircraft piloted by the IAF’s elite aviators, who executed a breathtaking series of maneuvers. As the aircraft soared through the sky, they painted vibrant trails of saffron, white, and green smoke, symbolizing the colors of the national flag. This visual spectacle was designed to captivate and inspire, encouraging the younger generation to explore careers in aviation and the armed forces.
The event drew notable attendees, including Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. Both leaders took the time to engage with school children present at the event, further fostering a sense of enthusiasm around aviation. Additionally, a ceremonial presentation took place, which included the unveiling of a traditional artwork representing the cultural bond between the armed forces and the local community. Young cadets and students in uniform were also given the unique opportunity to interact with dignitaries, reinforcing the focus on motivating the youth.
To ensure safety during this low-altitude aerobatic display, the Ranchi district administration implemented stringent security measures. A no-fly zone was established, creating a 200-meter radius around the Army Ground where drones, paragliders, and hot air balloons were prohibited. Furthermore, a temporary ban on the sale of meat and fish was enforced in the Namkum area to minimize the risk of bird activity that could endanger the aircraft.
An officer from the Indian Air Force highlighted the extensive preparation that went into the event, stating that Surya Kiran pilots underwent six months of rigorous training to prepare for the show. The officer expressed the dual purpose of the display, saying, “Our goal is to showcase the excellence of the Indian Air Force while inspiring the youth to join us in serving the nation.”
This historic air show in Ranchi aligns with a broader series of initiatives by the Indian Air Force to promote indigenous defense capabilities and innovation, as emphasized by Shri Sanjay Seth during a recent seminar at Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru. The event not only celebrated the skills and dedication of the IAF personnel but also reinforced the force’s commitment to connecting with communities nationwide, fostering pride and aspiration among the country’s youth.
