Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, recently made an important visit to an Infantry Battalion located at Jutogh Cantonment near Shimla. This visit aimed to assess the operational preparedness of the unit as part of the Indian Army’s sustained efforts to bolster its forces, particularly in light of the “Year of Defence Reforms” declared by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for 2025. The overarching goal of this initiative is to modernize the Armed Forces, focusing on enhancing jointness, technology integration, and operational efficiency.
During his visit, Lt Gen Sengupta conducted a thorough inspection of the battalion’s equipment and resources. This included a detailed review of essential military gear such as rifles, backpacks, and various operational tools, highlighting the importance of maintaining up-to-date equipment in ensuring readiness.
Engagement with the troops was central to the visit, with Lt Gen Sengupta holding a briefing session to address the soldiers about their operational readiness and any challenges they might be facing. The Jutogh Cantonment, recognized as a strategic military hub, is under the leadership of Station Commander Brigadier Navdeep Brar, who concurrently serves as the President of the Cantonment Board. Such high-level engagements exemplify the Army’s commitment to ensuring combat readiness and fostering a motivated and competent workforce. This aligns well with the objectives of capability development and transformation set forth for the Indian Army by 2025.
