In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a crucial emergency meeting is set to take place today at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) office in Odisha. This assembly, led by Eastern Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dr. Satyajit Naik, will convene at 2 PM, with the possibility of relocating to the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) campus based on security and logistical requirements.
The primary focus of the meeting is to enhance security measures at two vital military installations in Chandipur—the Integrated Test Range (ITR) and PXE. These facilities play a pivotal role in India’s missile and weapons testing capabilities and have recently seen a marked increase in security protocols. There will be collaborative efforts involving DRDO, local law enforcement, and coastal security agencies to prepare for potential threats.
Senior officials from district police and coastal forces are expected to provide current threat evaluations and present updated preparedness measures during the meeting. The Superintendent of Police in Balasore has been tasked with ensuring effective coordination between the police units and DRDO personnel, highlighting the critical need for an integrated defense strategy amidst a growing environment of national insecurity.
This emergency gathering comes on the heels of late-night discussions held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, which involved leaders from India’s border and security forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). These consultations were a direct response to India’s recent precision strikes on terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which led to a retaliatory strike attempt by Pakistan that failed.
During these high-level talks, Shah was updated on the current state of affairs along India’s borders, particularly in the western and northern regions. The meeting enabled an assessment of enhanced security protocols that have recently been implemented. The BSF, ITBP, and SSB provided briefings on their operational status along the frontlines with Pakistan, China, Nepal, and Bhutan, while the Home Minister also discussed strategic security measures related to critical civilian infrastructures with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The CISF has raised its alert levels at airports, metro systems, and industrial hubs nationwide.
These coordinated efforts among defense and civil agencies illustrate a comprehensive approach to addressing the heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.
