A group of 10 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets reached a historic milestone by successfully summiting Mount Everest, which stands at 8,848 meters. This achievement marks the third successful expedition by the NCC to conquer the world’s highest peak, following previous successes in 2013 and 2016, reinforcing the organization’s stature as a nurturing ground for adventure and resilience among the youth of India.
The team, comprising five boys and five girls, was officially launched last month during a flag-off ceremony led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from South Block in New Delhi. Prior to their ascent, the cadets underwent rigorous training on Mount Abi Gamin, located in the Garhwal Himalayas, as well as at the Siachen Battle School, renowned for its harsh environmental conditions. This extensive preparatory phase was crucial, as it tested their physical endurance, mental fortitude, and teamwork—essential qualities that contributed to their success on Everest.
Upon reaching the summit, the cadets proudly displayed the Indian Tricolour alongside the NCC flag, symbolizing not only national pride but also the invincible spirit of India’s youth. This expedition was part of a larger initiative that included 25 Indian Army climbers who aimed to scale Everest, as well as a joint Indo-Nepali Army team that plans to ascend Mount Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak.
The expedition, led by Colonel Amit Bisht, included four officers and 11 permanent instructors who provided vital logistical and safety support throughout the mission. Planning and preparation started over a year in advance, where the team navigated treacherous terrains and endured high-altitude training camps to acclimatize to the extreme conditions of Everest.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the cadets for their remarkable achievement, calling it a demonstration of youthful courage and determination. He expressed pride in their accomplishment, stating that it serves as an inspiration for the nation’s youth and reinforces the values of leadership, endurance, and unity that the NCC stands for.
A celebratory event was held to honor the team, attended by dignitaries, senior defense officials, and fellow cadets. The venue was adorned with banners celebrating the expedition’s success, capturing the pride and excitement surrounding this significant milestone.
This recent ascent further cements the NCC’s legacy in fostering adventure sports and leadership skills. It highlights the organization’s commitment to cultivating a generation of disciplined, resilient, and patriotic young Indians who are prepared to face any challenge.
