President Murmu Conferred Six Kirti Chakras and 33 Shaurya Chakras at Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025

During the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025 held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Droupadi Murmu awarded six Kirti Chakras and 33 Shaurya Chakras, honoring the exceptional bravery and sacrifice demonstrated by members of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and State/Union Territory Police personnel. The event highlighted acts of gallantry during extensive counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East regions, as well as during high-risk rescue operations.

Among the recipients, several Indian Army personnel received the distinguished Shaurya Chakra for their valiant actions in neutralizing terrorists and recovering weapons amidst intense firefights. Noteworthy among them were Major (now Lt Col) Vijay Verma and Colonel Pawan Singh, recognized for their courage during operations in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Additionally, Commodore Sharad Sinsunwa of the Indian Navy was honored for successfully leading anti-piracy missions that resulted in the rescue of hostages and the safe recovery of a burning oil tanker.

Members of the Air Force also received accolades for their bravery, particularly Wing Commander Vernon Desmond Keane and Squadron Leader Deepak Kumar, who risked their lives to maneuver their aircraft away from civilian areas, averting potential disasters.

A special mention was made of Assistant Commandant Eshenthung Kikon from the Indian Army, who was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his exceptional bravery during a high-risk mission in August 2024, garnering significant appreciation during the ceremony.

Among the posthumous recipients were Major Aashish Dhonchak and Sepoy Pardeep Singh, who were honored for their ultimate sacrifice during counter-terror operations in September 2023. Two members of the Central Reserve Police Force, CT/GD Pawn Kumar and CT/GD Devan, were posthumously awarded for their valor in anti-Maoist operations in January 2024.

The Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, was posthumously presented to Colonel Manpreet Singh, Rifleman Ravi Kumar, Naik Dilwar Khan, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Muzzammil Bhat for their courageous efforts during a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir in September 2023.

The comprehensive list of awardees demonstrated not only individual bravery but also the collective commitment of India’s security forces to protect the nation. This year’s ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the extraordinary dedication and valor exhibited by these heroes, whose sacrifices continue to inspire the country and uphold the spirit of service.
