Mass Virtual Inc. Launches Extended Reality Solution to Enhance US Army Aerial Intelligence Training at Fort Bliss

Mass Virtual Inc. has unveiled a cutting-edge extended reality (XR) solution at Fort Bliss aimed at enhancing training for U.S. Army aerial intelligence units. The initiative includes the installation of MassXR, a proprietary simulator designed to deliver high-fidelity and repeatable virtual instruction on the operation and maintenance of critical sensors and surveillance technologies utilized in aircraft.

This newly implemented technology is now part of the Virtual Aerial Systems Trainer (VAST) program, which focuses on preparing future aircrews for advanced surveillance aircraft, namely ATHENA and HADES. Specifically, the HADES system will operate on the Bombardier Global 6500 platform.

The successful installation and integration of the MassXR simulator were achieved through a collaborative effort with the Army’s Project Director Sensors-Aerial Intelligence (PD SAI) office. This partnership marks a significant step forward in utilizing advanced technology for military training.

MassXR features various modules emphasizing hands-on learning of essential systems and procedures applicable from preflight phases through to advanced maintenance and electronic intelligence operations. This immersive training capability represents a “transformational shift” for Army training resources, effectively reducing reliance on real-world preparations that are often limited due to scarce flight hours. Furthermore, it enhances the overall safety of soldiers during training exercises.

Billy Webb, Business Development Director at Mass Virtual, stated, “This classroom gives soldiers an environment to learn, practice, and perfect their skills—so they can execute with confidence when it matters most.”

The MassXR suite has been tested by the U.S. Army, which reported a remarkably swift development and deployment process. Trainees were able to utilize the simulator mere hours after its operational readiness was confirmed. Initial users included members of the 204th Military Intelligence Battalion, who provided overwhelmingly positive feedback and suggestions for future enhancements.

Project Support Manager Angel Acevedo from PD SAI highlighted the significance of this launch, noting that it represents “the culmination of years of coordinated planning, engineering, and operational alignment.” He further emphasized that this first delivery serves as a milestone validation for the Army’s ongoing transformation into a modern fighting force.

The implementation of Mass Virtual’s XR technology marks a pivotal advancement in the Army’s training capabilities, promising to better prepare soldiers for the challenges ahead.
