DRDO and CLAWS Sign MoU to Advance Research in Futuristic Defence Technologies

In a significant development reflecting India’s commitment to self-reliance and innovation in the defence sector, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS). This agreement aims to foster collaboration on research related to futuristic defence technologies and war gaming strategies.

The MoU was officially signed by Shri L C Mangal, the Director General (Technical Management) of DRDO, and Lt Gen Dushyant Singh (Retd), the Director General of CLAWS. The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and the Chairman of DRDO, underscoring the strategic significance of this partnership for national security.

Scheduled for signing on 26 May 2025, the MoU sets forth a framework for conducting studies, seminars, research, and workshops focusing on advanced technology and war gaming methodologies. The collaboration is designed to leverage DRDO’s cutting-edge research capabilities and CLAWS’ expertise in land warfare and strategic concepts.

In a follow-up high-level meeting, officials developed a roadmap to guide this strategic collaboration. This initiative is part of DRDO’s broader efforts to create Centres of Excellence that link academic research with industry innovation and defence operations.

Experts in the field believe that this partnership will significantly enhance India’s preparedness to face emerging threats and conflicts. It also aligns with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, aiming to decrease reliance on foreign defence technologies.

As global defence paradigms continue to evolve, this MoU marks a timely and proactive step for India, ensuring that the nation is not only keeping pace with, but is also positioned to lead in areas critical to modern warfare. The collaboration is anticipated to produce tangible advancements in defence planning, simulation capabilities, and high-tech innovations in the coming years.
