A profound sense of sorrow has enveloped Baraban village, located in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, following the tragic loss of Lance Naik Manish Thakur. The 27-year-old soldier, part of the Dogra Regiment, was reported to have been martyred on Sunday evening due to a landslide while on duty near the Brigade Headquarters at Chatten in North Sikkim.
Lance Naik Thakur was not only recognized for his military prowess but also adored by his comrades and fellow villagers for his discipline and humility. He joined the Indian Army in September 2016 and devoted the past eight years to serving the country with an unwavering commitment. He leaves behind his wife, Tanu Devi, and his parents, Joginder Singh and Kiran Bala, who reside in Baraban (Kolar) village under Nahan tehsil.
In a statement confirming the unfortunate incident, Major (Retd) Deepak Dhawan, Deputy Director of the Sainik Welfare Board in Sirmaur, mentioned that the soldier’s mortal remains are expected to arrive in Chandigarh by aircraft later in the evening. Following the transport to Chandigarh, the body will then be driven to his native village, accompanied by full military honours.
“Lance Naik Manish Thakur has laid down his life in the line of duty and we salute his supreme sacrifice. The district administration, along with the Army and the Sainik Welfare Board, is fully supporting the bereaved family,” Major Dhawan remarked, highlighting the collective effort to honor the fallen hero.
The final rites of Lance Naik Thakur will take place in Baraban village, following the Assured Decent Last Rites (ADLR) protocol, ensuring he is given all due respect for his services. The entire region is united in its grief, standing together in pride as they commemorate his enduring dedication to the nation.
