Top Naxal Leader Bhaskar Killed in Bijapur Encounter, Security Forces Score Major Success

In a significant breakthrough against the Naxalite movement, security forces have successfully eliminated Bhaskar, a prominent Naxal leader with a collective bounty of Rs 45 lakh. The encounter took place in the Indravati National Park area of Bijapur district and involved personnel from the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA). This operation is part of a broader strategy to dismantle Maoist activities in the region.

Inspector General of Police for the Bastar Range, Sundarraj, confirmed the retrieval of Bhaskar’s body following an intense exchange of gunfire. Alongside his body, security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, explosive materials, additional weapons, and ammunition. Initial investigations have positively identified the deceased as Bhaskar, whose real name is Mailarapu Adellu, and who served as a special zonal committee member for the Telangana State Committee (TSC) of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Bhaskar hailed from the Adilabad district in Telangana and held the position of secretary for the Mancherial-Komarambheem division within the TSC. His elimination carries substantial implications for Maoist operations across both Chhattisgarh and Telangana, especially considering he had received bounties of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakh in Telangana.

This encounter is the third major success for security forces in a span of merely two weeks, reflecting an escalated crackdown on Naxalite insurgency aimed at eradicating the threat by March 2026. Just the previous day, another senior Maoist leader, Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, was also killed in the same district. Sudhakar, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was notorious for his role in radicalizing youth and orchestrating brutal attacks against both civilians and security personnel in Chhattisgarh.

Two weeks earlier, the security forces had neutralized Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), in a separate operation in Narayanpur, located in the Bastar region. These recent operations highlight the government’s decisive commitment to restoring order and security in regions affected by Naxal violence through well-coordinated and sustained efforts.
