In a significant boost to its defense capabilities, Ukraine is set to receive advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from the German company Quantum Systems. The incorporation of the Vector AI drone, distinguished by its innovative sensor technology, is poised to enhance reconnaissance efforts on the battlefield.
The Vector AI drone features a wingspan of 2.8 meters (9.2 feet) and is designed for extended flight duration, capable of remaining airborne for up to four hours. It can operate effectively within a range of 60 kilometers (37.3 miles), providing a substantial operational scope for reconnaissance missions.
At the heart of this UAV is the Weles Acoustic Sensor Payload (WASP), a compact module weighing just 150 grams (5.3 ounces). This advanced sensor is engineered to detect enemy artillery fire from distances of up to 15 kilometers (9.32 miles) and can also pick up small arms fire from about 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles). Such capabilities allow the drone to “hear” incoming threats, significantly enhancing situational awareness for Ukrainian forces.
The deployment of the Vector AI drone underscores Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to modernize its military technology and adapt to contemporary warfare challenges. With its ability to effectively monitor enemy movements and artillery positions, the drone promises to play a crucial role in intelligence gathering and battlefield strategy.
