Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah of Jordan has announced plans to reactivate the country’s national military service, signaling a significant policy shift aimed at enhancing civic responsibility and preparing citizens for national duties. Jordan’s move to reinstate military service comes after a long hiatus; mandatory conscription was halted in 1991, at which time men aged 18 to 40 were obliged to serve a two-year term in the armed forces. In a notable development, the European Council approved a €13.25 million (approximately $13.9 million) support package for the Jordanian Armed Forces through the European Peace Facility. Under a robust memorandum of understanding valued at $1.2 billion annually, the United States commits a minimum of $350 million each year in Foreign Military Financing, enabling Jordan to enhance its military capabilities and address growing security challenges in the region.
