South Carolina Company Secures $12.5 Million Contract for Advanced Combat Suit Technology Integration

A South Carolina-based company, Tetramer Technologies, has secured a significant $12.5 million contract aimed at enhancing the protective capabilities of combat-ready suits through the integration of advanced metal-organic framework (MOF) bead technology. This initiative is backed by the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Consortium, a Pentagon-supported innovation network designed to bolster operational security for soldiers operating in environments contaminated by chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

The contract encompasses an extensive five-year project focused on research, development, and evaluations of MOF-embedded gear that can be deployed in the field. At the core of this initiative is Tetramer’s proprietary MOF bead technology, which has the capacity to trap hazardous substances, including chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals, neutralizing these threats upon contact.

The integration of this technology is anticipated to revolutionize tactical clothing, significantly reducing exposure risks for soldiers while maintaining a lightweight and comfortable fit essential for battlefield operations. In this endeavor, Tetramer will collaborate with Kappler, an esteemed Alabama-based leader in protective equipment, to ensure that the MOF beads are effectively integrated into selected high-performance gear. This partnership aims to uphold military standards while ensuring that the gear remains both functional and user-friendly during operations.

Moreover, Tetramer will work alongside additional partners, such as Advanced Functional Fabrics of America, to rigorously test the materials under realistic threat scenarios. This collaborative approach is designed to guarantee that the new fabrics not only meet military requirements but also perform optimally in high-pressure environments.

Tetramer Technologies CEO Michelle DiMaio expressed enthusiasm about the project, underscoring its significance as a foundational step towards enhancing military protective fabrics. “This project marks an important starting point focused on enhancing military protective fabrics, but it’s just the beginning,” she stated. DiMaio also highlighted the company’s eagerness to explore new opportunities and partnerships that could broaden the application of their innovative materials across both military and industrial sectors.
