India Supports UN Resolution on Palestine

In a major diplomatic move, India voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution that endorsed the “New York Declaration” advocating a peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue through a two-state solution. The resolution, adopted on 12 September 2025, received the backing of 142 nations, while 10 voted against (including the United States) and 12 abstained.
India’s support reflects its traditional stance of endorsing the creation of a sovereign, independent Palestine living in harmony with a secure Israel within mutually recognized borders. While the US opposed the motion, calling it politically motivated and claiming it undermined ongoing efforts in Gaza, India maintained its balanced approach of supporting Palestinian statehood while recognizing Israel’s right to peace and security.
