Domo Tactical Communications Unveils Sentry 6161 Tactical Radio for Frontline Troops

Domo Tactical Communications (DTC), based in Virginia, has launched the Sentry 6161, an innovative tactical radio designed to meet the needs of frontline troops, as well as government agencies, emergency services, critical infrastructure, and commercial operators. The Sentry 6161 stands out with its software-based technology, which allows it to easily switch between different radio bands and networks, making it adaptable for a variety of missions and operational contexts.

A key feature of the Sentry 6161 is its compatibility with both legacy clip-on batteries and contemporary centralized power packs. This versatility not only minimizes the weight carried by personnel but also extends the operating time, crucial for long-duration field missions. Furthermore, the design of the radio prioritizes command and control capabilities, allowing it to function effectively even in contested environments plagued by GPS jamming or infrastructure damage.

Recent military trials have indicated the Sentry 6161’s promising capabilities, demonstrating its ability to connect with allied networks, host various waveforms, and seamlessly switch between power sources. Its modular design facilitates easy repairs and upgrades, which could ultimately reduce long-term operational costs. Codan Group CEO Alf Ianniello emphasized that the radio was developed with military users in mind, highlighting its essential role from squad-level communications to larger dismounted networks.

The Sentry 6161 is manufactured at the Adelaide facilities of its parent company, Codan, enabling militaries to maintain greater control over hardware and software to align with their national security and sustainability requirements. South Australian leaders have praised the radio as a significant advancement in defense manufacturing, underlining the state’s increasing contribution to the sector.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas noted that the Sentry 6161 exemplifies South Australia’s strengths as a leader in advanced manufacturing for defense. He stated, “Communications technology is a vital sovereign capability, enhancing national defence readiness and expanding export opportunities.” Malinauskas reiterated the importance of this innovation from DTC, citing its status as a major advanced manufacturer in the region.

Additionally, South Australian Treasurer and Minister for Defence and Space Industries Stephen Mullighan remarked on the broader implications of the technology, indicating that the Sentry 6161 illustrates the dual-use potential of advanced communications systems that serve not only military purposes but also government and commercial applications. This innovation reinforces South Australia’s position as a reliable partner in global supply chains and as a leader in sovereign capabilities.

The Sentry 6161 is now available globally, with DTC offering demonstrations, pilot programs, and integration support to prospective users.
