Russian airstrikes on Ukraine overnight resulted in the deaths of two civilians, according to Ukrainian officials. These assaults occurred as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky prepared for a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in New York. Meanwhile, U.S. President Biden has expressed growing frustration with Russia for its continued military aggression.
Kyiv’s air force reported that Russia launched a significant attack, deploying three missiles and 115 drones in a sustained campaign against Ukraine. While many of the drones were intercepted by air defense systems, tragic losses were still recorded, including one fatality in the southern Zaporizhzhia region and another in the coastal region of Odesa.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko condemned the relentless acts of aggression, stating on social media, “Russia continued its terror against the people of Ukraine, targeting the civilian population in multiple regions of the country.” She further emphasized the urgent need for increased air defense support from Ukraine’s allies, asserting, “Every delay in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense means more lives lost.”
In response to the ongoing threats, Ukraine has escalated its own retaliatory measures, launching a series of long-range drone strikes aimed at Russian targets. In an announcement from Russia’s defense ministry, it was reported that 69 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over its territory, with no damage identified. However, over a dozen drones reportedly targeted the capital, Moscow, as stated by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
The continued back-and-forth exchange of aerial assaults underscores the intensifying conflict, with both nations exchanging blows as international diplomatic efforts continue to address the situation.
