India Clinches 9th Asia Cup Title

In a nail-biting finale at the Dubai International Stadium on 28 September 2025, India lifted its ninth Asia Cup trophy by defeating Pakistan with five wickets in hand. Chasing a modest target of 147, India stumbled early at 20 for 3 but staged a remarkable comeback. Young batter Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 runs and Shivam Dube’s quickfire 33 off 22 balls steered the team to victory at 150 for 5.

The Asia Cup, launched in 1984 under the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), alternates between ODI and T20I formats depending on the upcoming ICC tournament. With this triumph, India extended its dominance in the tournament’s history, securing nine titles (1984, 1988, 1990–91, 1995, 2010, 2016, 2018, 2023, and 2025). Sri Lanka follows with six wins, while Pakistan has claimed the title twice.

Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve & New Ramsar Sites

India achieved two important milestones in environmental conservation this year:

  1. The Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve in Himachal Pradesh was inducted into UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves, becoming the 13th Indian site on this prestigious list.
  2. Two wetlands in Bihar — Gokul Jalashay (448 hectares, Buxar district) and Udaipur Jheel (319 hectares, West Champaran district) — were declared Ramsar sites, bringing India’s total to 93 wetlands of international importance.

These recognitions strengthen India’s global standing in biodiversity protection, open opportunities for international cooperation, and promote sustainable development led by local communities.
