UIDAI Waives Aadhaar Biometric Fees for Children

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that all charges for Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) for children aged 7 to 15 years will be waived for one year, starting October 1, 2025.

This decision will benefit nearly 6 crore children across the country. During Aadhaar enrolment for children under five, only demographic details like name, birth date, gender, and photo are recorded, as biometric data such as fingerprints and iris scans cannot be accurately captured at that age.

Earlier, free biometric updates were allowed only within specific time windows, with a ₹125 fee applicable for delays. Under this new rule, all minors between 5 and 17 years can update their Aadhaar biometrics free of cost between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
