India Awards Zen Technologies $444,000 Contract for Anti-Drone Systems

India has awarded a significant contract to Zen Technologies Limited, a local firm, for the supply of advanced anti-drone systems valued at 37 million rupees (approximately $444,000). These systems are designed with hard-kill capabilities, enabling them to detect, track, and physically neutralize hostile drones. This initiative comes as a response to the growing threats posed by drones in border regions and around critical infrastructure.

The counter-drone systems utilize a sophisticated combination of sensors, electronic warfare tactics, and kinetic interceptors to effectively neutralize incoming threats. The contract is expected to be fulfilled within a 12-month timeframe, enhancing India’s capabilities in countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which have increasingly been employed for surveillance, smuggling operations, and asymmetric warfare tactics.

Ashok Atluri, the Chairman and Managing Director of Zen Technologies Limited, highlighted the strategic importance of deploying such advanced systems. He emphasized that the rise of drone usage in various nefarious activities makes combating this threat a pressing priority. Atluri also pointed out that this contract illustrates the significance of utilizing robust, indigenously designed technologies that validate the company’s ongoing investment in research and development. He reaffirmed Zen Technologies’ commitment to supporting India’s defense modernization efforts and boosting the nation’s self-reliance in defense procurement.

In light of rising security concerns, New Delhi is actively ramping up its border defenses, concentrating on investments in local defense technologies, and accelerating the modernization of its air defense systems. Earlier this month, the Indian Ministry of Defence had awarded a $5.2-million contract to Paras Anti-Drone Technologies for the delivery of advanced anti-drone systems designed for the armed forces. These systems are equipped with jammers capable of detecting and disabling hostile drones, particularly in high-security areas and along the borders.

Moreover, as part of enhancing its defensive capabilities, the Indian Army is moving quickly to secure six AK-630 air defense guns from Advanced Weapons and Equipment India to bolster protection around regions previously affected by clashes, particularly with Pakistan. This procurement is aligned with Mission Sudarshan Chakra, an initiative aimed at strengthening India’s national air defense network for long-term security and operational readiness.
