Ukrainian Strikes Leave Over 20,000 Without Power in Russian Border Regions

Ukrainian strikes have left over 20,000 residents without power in several border regions of Russia, local authorities reported on Sunday. Significant damage was reported to the electricity and heating supply networks, particularly in the regional capital of Belgorod, as stated by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

Gladkov detailed the impact on the community via a message on Telegram, highlighting that multiple streets in Belgorod have been affected and power has been cut for more than 20,000 residents.

In the Kursk region, further complications arose when a fire erupted at a power plant in the village of Korenevo, causing power outages in ten localities, as announced by Governor Alexander Khinshtein. Similarly, in the southern Voronezh region, a heating facility caught fire, as reported by Governor Alexander Gusev.

In response to these attacks, Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 44 drones over the Bryansk region, reflecting ongoing tensions along the border.

On the previous day, simultaneous Russian assaults targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leading to severe disruptions in power and heating services throughout the country. Ukrainian officials reported that the state’s electricity generation capacity had plummeted to zero by Sunday. The strike inflicted significant damage to power plants and resulted in at least four fatalities.

Moscow’s intensified attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure in recent months culminated in a major offensive overnight Saturday, during which 69 drones were launched at various energy facilities. The Ukrainian air force reported successfully shooting down 34 of these aerial threats, highlighting the ongoing struggle between the two nations as they grapple with infrastructure crises and security concerns.
