Axiscades and Cilas Collaborate to Introduce Helma-P Laser Counter-Drone System in India

India’s Axiscades Technologies has entered into a strategic partnership with French defense manufacturer Cilas to bring the Helma-P high-energy laser counter-drone system into the Indian market. This collaboration signifies a crucial step towards enhancing India’s defense capabilities, particularly in countering drone threats.

As part of this initiative, the Helma-P system will be seamlessly integrated into Axiscades’ existing command-and-control architecture and mobile, vehicle-mounted counter-drone platforms. This integration is expected to bolster India’s efforts toward indigenizing defense technologies, with a focus on local maintenance and support. Such advancements align with India’s broader goal of achieving self-reliance in the defense sector, catering to the specific operational needs of the armed forces.

Axiscades expressed its commitment to supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to strengthen India’s defense ecosystem. The partnership seeks to contribute to the modernization of the Indian Armed Forces by providing world-class solutions co-developed by both firms.

The Helma-P system has already proven its capabilities in operational scenarios, including its deployment during the Paris 2024 Olympics. This high-energy laser system is designed to detect, identify, track, and neutralize agile aerial targets with remarkable precision, whether in open operational theaters or dense urban environments.

With an impressive engagement range extending up to 1.7 kilometers (approximately 0.62 to 4.34 miles), the Helma-P can neutralize a range of threats not just limited to unmanned aerial systems. It is also capable of disabling robots, radars, improvised explosive devices, and conventional military assets like rockets, artillery, and mortars.

One of the standout features of the Helma-P system is its ability to operate without ammunition, effectively eliminating firing costs associated with each engagement. The system operates discreetly, producing minimal visible signatures while delivering targeted effects silently.

Overall, this partnership between Axiscades and Cilas sets a promising trajectory for India’s defense landscape, merging advanced technology with local expertise to ensure heightened security and operational readiness.
