An Indian Air Force (IAF) PC-7 Mk II basic trainer aircraft crashed near Tambaram, Chennai, during a routine training mission on Thursday. The incident, which occurred around 1425 hours, triggered a swift response from both the Air Force and local authorities.
The pilot, who was conducting a solo training sortie at the time of the crash, successfully ejected from the aircraft and has been reported in stable condition. The controlled ejection and the aircraft’s descent into an uninhabited area prevented any damage to civilian property or injuries to local residents.
In response to the incident, the IAF has initiated a Court of Inquiry to investigate the crash and ascertain its cause. Preliminary reports suggest that the aircraft faced an unexpected issue during flight, necessitating the pilot’s emergency ejection.
The PC-7 Mk II, produced by Pilatus Aircraft, is a vital asset in the IAF’s training fleet, primarily utilized for introducing flying skills to cadets across various Air Force training facilities.
As the inquiry unfolds, further information is anticipated regarding the circumstances that led to the crash.
