National Epilepsy Day 2025

India will mark National Epilepsy Day on 17 November 2025, a day dedicated to raising awareness about epilepsy — a neurological disorder that continues to be misunderstood despite affecting millions. The observance aims to educate people on recognising recurrent seizures as a treatable medical issue and to encourage early and accurate diagnosis.

This annual initiative also promotes timely medical intervention, adherence to treatment, and the creation of a socially supportive environment for individuals living with epilepsy.

National Epilepsy Day was established by the Epilepsy Foundation of India, spearheaded by Dr. Nirmal Surya, with the goal of eliminating stigma and improving the overall quality of life for patients and their families.

International Students’ Day 2025

Observed every year on 17 November, International Students’ Day is often associated with cultural events, university programs, and global student-led initiatives. However, its origins trace back to a powerful and tragic chapter of history.

The day commemorates the 1939 uprising of Czech students in Prague, who bravely resisted Nazi oppression during World War II. Their resistance, though brutally crushed, became a lasting global symbol of student unity, courage, and defiance against tyranny.

National Press Day 2025

India celebrates National Press Day on 16 November to honour the indispensable role of the press as the fourth pillar of democracy. The day underscores the importance of free expression, responsible journalism, and the media’s accountability to the public.

National Press Day marks the founding of the Press Council of India (PCI), established in 1966 under the Indian Press Council Act of 1965 and later reconstituted in 1979. As an autonomous watchdog, the PCI works to safeguard press freedom and ensure ethical standards in journalism.

India’s media sector has seen remarkable growth, with registered publications increasing from 60,143 in 2004–05 to more than 1.54 lakh in 2024–25, showcasing the expanding reach of journalism across regions and languages.

Saranda Forest Declared a Wildlife Sanctuary

In a major conservation step, the Supreme Court of India has ordered the Jharkhand government to designate the Saranda Forest as a wildlife sanctuary. This decision aims to safeguard one of India’s most ecologically rich regions, which is home to diverse flora, fauna, and indigenous communities.

Located in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, Saranda spans 820–900 sq km and is considered Asia’s largest natural Sal forest. Its scenic landscape of rolling hills has earned it the name “land of seven hundred hills.”

Positioned within the Chhotanagpur bio-geographic zone, the forest forms a continuous green corridor with neighbouring areas of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Saranda supports numerous rare and endangered species, making its protection vital for ecological balance and biodiversity conservation.
