International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025

Every year on 3 December, the world observes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) to strengthen global awareness about the rights, dignity, and empowerment of people with disabilities. The day serves as a reminder that inclusive development is essential for a fair society.

The theme for IDPD 2025, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” emphasises that meaningful progress is impossible without the participation of persons with disabilities. The United Nations underscores three key pillars needed for genuine social development: eliminating poverty, ensuring decent employment opportunities, and promoting social integration. Together, these elements highlight the global need for inclusive policies and systems that encourage equal participation.

Russia to Establish Its First Naval Base in Africa

In a significant geopolitical development, Sudan has officially approved Russia’s plan to build its first naval base on African soil. This agreement, concluded during discussions in Moscow between Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssef Ahmed al-Sharif and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, strengthens Russia’s strategic outreach.

The upcoming naval facility will be located near Port Sudan, along the vital maritime route connecting the Red Sea to the Suez Canal, a waterway responsible for nearly 12% of global trade. The strategic position will enable Russia to enhance its presence in a region that already hosts military bases of major powers, including the United States and China.

Russia’s growing interest in Sudan is also influenced by uncertainties surrounding the future of its naval base in Tartus, Syria. Establishing a naval foothold in Sudan offers Moscow a reliable alternative and extends its global maritime capabilities.

Karnataka Launches e-Swathu 2.0 for Rural Property Management

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has unveiled e-Swathu 2.0, an upgraded digital platform designed to streamline the regularisation and documentation of rural properties. The system is expected to significantly increase rural revenue generation, potentially reaching ₹2,000 crore, by including 95 lakh gram panchayat properties under the tax network.

The Chief Minister noted that the new version could immediately boost state revenue by over ₹1,700 crore, with further gains expected as more properties are digitised. Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge, explained that the platform will make property-related services faster and more transparent. Villagers can now easily download digital e-Khata documents such as Forms 11A and 11B.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar added that the system is accessible both online and through Bapuji Centres, ensuring that applicants receive their updated property documents within just 15 days. The initiative aims to simplify record management and offer quicker service delivery to rural residents.

Birth Anniversary of Martyr Khudiram Bose

Union Home Minister Amit Shah honoured the memory of Khudiram Bose, one of India’s youngest freedom fighters, on his birth anniversary. Born on 3 December 1889 in the Midnapore district, Khudiram became a symbol of youthful courage during the freedom struggle.

Along with Prafulla Chaki, he attempted to assassinate Magistrate Douglas Kingsford in what became known as the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy Case.
