GomSpace Secures $5.4 Million Contract for Microsatellite Platform in European Defense Sector

GomSpace has announced a significant milestone in its operations, having secured a contract worth 50 million Swedish kronor (approximately $5.4 million) to design and deliver a microsatellite platform for a leading European defense company. This strategic partnership reinforces the company’s position within the defense sector, underscoring its commitment to enhancing sovereign space capabilities in Europe.

The Danish small satellite manufacturer will be responsible for the entire scope of the project, including the design, integration, and delivery of the customized microsatellite platform. The project is slated for full execution by the summer of 2027. While the specific identity of the customer has not been disclosed, GomSpace emphasizes the importance of this deal as a step forward in bolstering space-related defense initiatives within Europe.

CEO Carsten Drachmann expressed confidence in the company’s competencies, stating that the award highlights GomSpace’s increasing influence in the defense space arena. He noted that the company’s track record of utilizing proven satellite platforms, combined with an agile manufacturing approach and a partnership-driven strategy, will be key factors in the project’s success.

The latest contract fits into a broader context of growth for GomSpace within Europe. The company has secured multiple contracts in recent months, illustrating its upward trajectory in the market. For instance, in June 2025, GomSpace entered a major agreement with a European technology firm to develop a constellation of 18 satellites within a 12-month timeframe, marking one of its largest commercial orders in the region.

Further expanding its European footprint, GomSpace also secured a contract with Unseenlabs in France in September 2025 to deliver two additional cube satellites, aimed at enhancing an existing constellation. The delivery for this project is scheduled for the latter half of 2026.

In addition, the company has been awarded a contract by the European Space Agency in October 2025 to accelerate the development of its next-generation Attitude and Orbit Control Software. This advances the capabilities of satellite positioning and orientation, serving both commercial and governmental missions.

These developments signify not only GomSpace’s growing portfolio but also its vital role in the evolving landscape of European space capabilities, particularly in the realm of defense.
