Netherlands Orders Additional Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles from Oshkosh Defense

Oshkosh Defense Europe B.V. and Oshkosh Defense have confirmed a new order from the Netherlands for more Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles (DXPV), widely recognized by their nickname, “Kaaiman.” The financial value of this agreement is estimated at between $25 million and $30 million.

The DXPV is designed with an open systems architecture, allowing for the integration of advanced technologies and mission systems. This flexibility is crucial for adapting to various operational environments and requirements. The order not only encompasses the vehicles themselves but also includes two DXPV training kits. These kits will enable Dutch soldiers to start their training efforts promptly, facilitating a seamless transition to full operational capability.

This recent acquisition underscores the Netherlands’ ongoing commitment to modernizing its fleet of defense vehicles. It follows a previous agreement for the procurement of 150 DXPVs under the Future Littoral All-Terrain Mobility – Patrol Vehicle program.

In a broader context, the Dutch government has been intensifying its investment in land systems. This initiative includes joint procurement efforts alongside European partners, designed to reduce costs while enhancing interoperability among allied forces. Just last month, the Dutch Ministry of Defence made headlines by announcing the acquisition of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, as part of a collaborative program with Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden.

Significantly, in October 2025, a landmark contract valued at 4.5 billion euros (approximately $5.25 billion) was signed between Germany and the Netherlands through the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation. This substantial deal involves a joint venture between Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland for the production of 270 Boxer armored vehicles. Under this arrangement, 198 of these vehicles are designated for the German Armed Forces, while 72 will be allocated to the Dutch military.

Furthermore, earlier in the year, the Netherlands secured a contract with Italian manufacturer Iveco Defence Vehicles to acquire 785 military logistics trucks. Deliveries for this order are scheduled to occur between 2027 and 2029, marking another step in the Netherlands’ strategy to bolster its military logistics capabilities.
