Saab Launches Poland's Second DELFIN-Class Intelligence Vessel, ORP Henryk Zygalski

Saab has successfully launched Poland’s second DELFIN-class signals intelligence vessel, named ORP Henryk Zygalski. This marks a significant milestone as it is the final unit in Poland’s two-vessel DELFIN program, following the earlier launch of the ORP Jerzy Różycki in July 2025.

Both vessels will undergo outfitting and the integration of mission equipment before advancing to sea trials and eventual service entry. Equipped with advanced electronic intelligence systems, the DELFIN ships are designed to effectively detect, identify, and analyze maritime electronic signals, enhancing Poland’s surveillance capabilities.

As the prime contractor for the program, Saab collaborates with Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., which is overseeing construction, while Polish firm MMC is providing design support. In addition, Saab will supply and integrate the mission suites with contributions from various partners in the Polish defense industry.

The scheduled deliveries of the vessels are set for 2027 and 2028, post-completion of integration work and trials. Mats Wicksell, head of Saab’s business area Kockums, emphasized the project’s importance in strengthening cooperation between Swedish and Polish industrial sectors, particularly in support of European security in the Baltic Sea region.

Saab’s engagement in Poland extends beyond the DELFIN program, as the country has incorporated several of Saab’s initiatives into its ongoing defense modernization efforts. In November, Poland chose Saab’s A26 submarines to replace its aging Soviet-era Kilo-class unit under the “Orka” initiative, aimed at retiring old platforms in favor of modern submarines capable of deploying both light and heavy torpedoes.

Earlier in September 2025, Saab and Poland’s WB Group announced a strategic cooperation framework to explore joint industrial opportunities across unmanned systems, naval platforms, and border protection technologies, further solidifying their partnership in enhancing national defense capabilities.
