Norway’s arms procurement agency, the National Directorate for Military Acquisition (NDMA), has entered into a significant agreement with Clavister, a Swedish cybersecurity firm, to develop a secure tactical communications solution for the Norwegian Armed Forces. The contract, valued at 280 million Swedish kronor (approximately $31 million), demonstrates a substantial investment in enhancing military communications security.
Of the total contract value, around 250 million Swedish kronor ($28 million) will be dedicated to the development of the Tactical Core Network System (TCNS), while the remainder will cover ongoing support and maintenance operations, ensuring the longevity and effectiveness of the solution post-deployment.
The TCNS will leverage Clavister’s proprietary networking and security software, aiming to provide reliable and secure connectivity for deployed military forces, independent of the existing communication infrastructure. This innovative approach seeks to enhance operational efficiency and resilience, allowing troops to maintain robust communication channels in various environments.
Scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026, the project will unfold over a 36-month period. Once the delivery phase is completed, a subsequent four-year support and maintenance contract will begin, with possibilities for further extensions as needed.
This initiative is part of the broader Mime program, a modernization effort overseen by NDMA that seeks to upgrade tactical command, control, communications, and information systems within the Norwegian military. The program emphasizes the establishment of a resilient, future-proof digital infrastructure to meet evolving defense operational needs.
Clavister’s CEO, John Vestberg, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, highlighting it as a testament to the company’s commitment to delivering secure and resilient networking solutions specifically tailored for defense and other mission-critical environments. Vestberg noted the company’s pride in supporting the Norwegian Armed Forces with technology developed in-house and expressed eagerness for a collaborative partnership with NDMA during both the delivery and maintenance phases.
