Lt Gen Rajiv K Sahni, the Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DG EME) and Colonel Commandant, recently conducted a comprehensive visit to various establishments under the Southern Command, including headquarters, EME units, the Artificial Limb Centre, and several leading defense industries in Pune.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sahni focused on reviewing both operational and technical initiatives across various EME setups. He expressed his appreciation for the Southern Command EME units, highlighting their commitment to maintaining high mission reliability for combat-critical equipment. The senior officer commended the well-structured sustenance initiatives implemented by these units, which have played a significant role in ensuring operational readiness throughout the formations.
A key highlight of Lt Gen Sahni’s visit was the impressive development of an in-house ecosystem designed for the mass production of drones within the Southern Command. He termed this achievement as indicative of the innovative spirit among EME personnel and emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of innovation to meet the evolving requirements of modern battlefields through indigenous solutions.
Moreover, Lt Gen Sahni acknowledged the rapid integration of advanced technologies such as additive manufacturing, robotics, and cobotics into the operational workflows of Southern Command. He noted that this effective incorporation of cutting-edge technologies is pivotal in bolstering the Indian Army’s pursuit of technological self-reliance and expediting the ongoing modernization efforts.
