Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, recently visited NIBE Ltd’s defence manufacturing facility located in Chakan, near Pune. This visit aimed to assess the company’s indigenous design, manufacturing, and system integration capabilities, which play a crucial role in India’s defence sector.
During the tour, Lt Gen Seth engaged with both the leadership and technical teams at NIBE Ltd. The discussions revolved around the advanced infrastructure available at the facility, which includes cutting-edge technologies such as precision cutting, automated welding, and vertical machining. This infrastructure is complemented by computer numerical control (CNC) machining and large structural assembly lines, enabling the production of intricate components necessary for launcher assemblies, structural sub-systems, and various advanced defence applications.
Also on the agenda was a comprehensive review of several strategic equipment and weapon systems that have been developed indigenously by NIBE Ltd. The Army Commander lauded these advancements, emphasizing the growing expertise within India regarding niche defence technologies. He noted the significant contribution of private industry in bolstering the nation’s defence preparedness.
The visit highlighted the increasingly collaborative relationship between the Indian Army and the domestic defence industry, focusing on advancing indigenous capabilities. Lt Gen Seth’s interactions reaffirmed a shared commitment to the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat—self-reliant India—while also aligning with the long-term objective of achieving a robust and self-sufficient defence ecosystem as part of the Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative. This collaborative effort underscores the strategic importance of indigenous resource development in supporting national security objectives.
