In a recent display of exceptional bravery, Army dog Tyson, a distinguished German Shepherd serving with the 2 Para (Special Forces), played a pivotal role in leading security forces to a terrorist hideout in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. This operation resulted in the elimination of three terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The counter-terror operation was a collaborative effort involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force. During the mission, Tyson showcased his remarkable instinct by crawling into a concealed hideout expertly hidden within the challenging terrain of Chhatroo. This strategic maneuver compelled the terrorists to open fire, during which Tyson sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Nonetheless, demonstrating extraordinary determination, Tyson continued to advance, enabling the troops to accurately pinpoint the terrorists’ location and ultimately neutralize the threat.

Among those eliminated was Saifullah, a key Jaish-e-Mohammed operative who had evaded capture for almost two years. Following the encounter, security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and additional war-like supplies from the site.

After the operation, Tyson was airlifted for specialized medical treatment and is currently reported to be in stable condition. Officials emphasized that the canine’s actions were crucial in concluding a lengthy pursuit of these terrorists, providing a sense of relief to local residents who had been living under the shadow of constant danger.

The operation was conducted as part of Operation Trashi-I, an ongoing counter-terror campaign initiated in January, aimed at dismantling militant networks in the forested and mountainous regions of Kishtwar, including areas such as Chhatroo, Sonnar, Dolgam, and Dichhar. Tyson’s bravery underscores the indispensable role of trained Army dogs in counter-terrorism efforts, where their courage and instinct frequently determine the outcome of such high-stakes operations.
