In a defiant address aired on state television, Pezeshkian seemed to respond directly to comments made by US President Donald Trump, who stated that only Iran’s “unconditional surrender” could bring an end to the hostilities. “Iran’s enemies must take their wish for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves,” Pezeshkian asserted.
Meanwhile, Iran demonstrated its retaliatory capabilities by launching air raid alerts and causing explosions in areas above Jerusalem as well as major Gulf cities like Dubai and Manama. Reports indicated that Saudi Arabia successfully intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at a military base housing US personnel. As a result, operations at Dubai airport, the busiest for international traffic, were briefly suspended due to heightened tensions.
The conflict, which began last Saturday following coordinated Israeli and US airstrikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has significantly escalated and now extends beyond Iranian borders, impacting countries such as Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. Even the waters off Sri Lanka have seen US forces sinking an Iranian warship with a torpedo.
The toll of the conflict on civilians is profound, with Iranian authorities reporting 926 civilian deaths and approximately 6,000 injuries, figures that have not been independently verified. On international relations, Iran’s UN ambassador emphasized that the choice of successors to leadership would solely be determined by Iran and not influenced by foreign powers, directly countering Trump’s suggestion of facilitating a new leadership in Tehran.

President Vladimir Putin reportedly expressed support for an immediate ceasefire during a call with Pezeshkian, while US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the US is closely monitoring potential Russian intelligence support to Iran.
