In a significant development for defense collaboration, French company Naval Group has formalized its partnership with Athens-based Metlen through a recently signed memorandum of understanding in Volos. This agreement aims to enhance their collaboration on submarine and surface combatant programs, positioning Metlen as a strategic player in Naval Group’s supply chain.
The deal comes as both companies seek to deepen their joint efforts on projects currently serving the French and Hellenic armed forces. Within this framework, Metlen has been tasked with manufacturing key components essential for the success of various military initiatives.
In addition to bolstering their national defense programs, the newly formed consortium plans to leverage its combined expertise and products to explore opportunities in international markets. The partnership, rooted in a shared vision, marks a continuation of their cooperation that began last year during the construction of the FDI frigate for the Hellenic Navy.
As part of this initiative, Naval Group has introduced a Hellenic Industrial Participation framework, which has successfully integrated over 70 Greek industry partners into its supply chain. This initiative not only enhances local engagement but also aims to foster a more robust industrial base in Greece.
Metlen, through its subsidiary M Technologies in Volos, has expanded its defense capabilities significantly. The company is planning to establish a six-facility industrial hub designed to support European defense initiatives and advanced manufacturing processes.
Commenting on the agreement, Metlen emphasized the shared ambition between both firms to enable complex naval systems and bolster a more resilient European defense ecosystem. This partnership also signifies the ongoing enhancement of Franco-Greek industrial relations, further solidifying bilateral military cooperation in the region.
