Captain Kulvinder Singh Bali has officially taken command of INS Dronacharya, the prestigious Gunnery and Missile training school of the Indian Navy located in Fort Kochi. The transition of leadership occurred on May 14, 2026, as he succeeded Commodore Manav Sehgal, VSM.
In the lead-up to this important role, Captain Bali served as the Commanding Officer of the Base Depot Ship INS Gomantak in the Goa Naval Area. His leadership experience there further prepared him for his new responsibilities at INS Dronacharya, which is critical for training personnel in advanced gunnery and missile operations.
A distinguished alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Capt Bali comes from a lineage of Gunnery specialists, representing the second generation in his family to pursue this specialization. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 1, 2004, marking the beginning of a notable career.
His educational background includes graduation from both the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the Army War College in Mhow, institutions known for shaping the future leaders of the armed forces.
Throughout his naval journey, Captain Bali has commanded various ships, including INS Kora, INS Ajay, and XFAC 83. Each of these commands has contributed to his extensive operational and leadership experience, vital traits he brings to his current position.
INS Dronacharya is recognized as a cornerstone of naval training, focusing on enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy by equipping personnel with knowledge in advanced gunnery, missile operations, and sophisticated combat systems.
