In a significant meeting in New Delhi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval engaged in extensive discussions with United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio on a range of critical issues, including defense, security, and strategic technology cooperation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that the conversations aimed to fortify bilateral ties, particularly in defense, counterterrorism, and security sectors, while also focusing on the TRUST initiative. This initiative, short for “Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology,” represents an evolved framework from the earlier Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), which was launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington earlier this year.
The TRUST initiative seeks to enhance collaborative efforts between India and the US in several high-tech sectors, such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and biotechnology. The discussions encompassed the AI Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to facilitate investment, market access, and the deployment of US-origin AI systems within India, thereby significantly bolstering technological exchanges between the two nations.
During the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and examined ongoing cooperation across various sectors, emphasizing the essential nature of strategic technology in enhancing national security and regional stability.
The conversation also delved into broader global and regional developments, prioritizing international security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Notably, the meeting addressed counterterrorism efforts and the need for strategic coordination to manage evolving geopolitical challenges.
Prior to his meeting with NSA Doval, Rubio met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Their discussions encompassed a comprehensive review of the India-US strategic partnership, touching upon critical areas including trade, energy, defense, nuclear cooperation, and counter-narcotics efforts.
Marco Rubio is currently undertaking a four-day visit to India, which includes participation in the imminent Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi alongside representatives from Australia and Japan. This upcoming meeting is anticipated to zero in on security in the Indo-Pacific, maritime collaboration, and the ramifications of emerging technologies in the context of geopolitical dynamics in the region.
