15th Defence Information Technology Consultative Committee Meeting Held in New Delhi
The 15th meeting of the Defence Information Technology Consultative Committee (DITCC) was conducted in New Delhi on 23 June 2026 under the chairmanship of Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth. Organized by Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), the meeting focused on strengthening India’s technological self-reliance in the defence sector and accelerating the adoption of advanced digital technologies.
Experts from various fields discussed the growing importance of emerging and disruptive technologies in modern warfare. Key topics included indigenous semiconductor manufacturing, development of a sovereign operating system and database infrastructure, and the strategic establishment of defence data centres. The committee approved several projects expected to strengthen national security capabilities while contributing to India’s broader vision of becoming a technologically advanced nation under the “Viksit Bharat” initiative.
The meeting witnessed participation from representatives of the Armed Forces, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, academia, and industry.
Indian Naval Warships Visit Vietnam
Indian Navy warships INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti arrived at Nha Rong Port in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on 22 June 2026 as part of their operational deployment in Southeast Asia. Both vessels are indigenously designed and constructed, reflecting India’s growing shipbuilding capabilities.
During their stay, personnel from the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy are scheduled to engage in professional exchanges, sports activities, community outreach programmes, and cross-deck visits. Senior naval leaders from both countries will also hold discussions aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation.
The visit is particularly significant as it marks India’s first major naval deployment to Vietnam since the two nations elevated their ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2026.
Japanese Firm Proterial to Establish Rare Earth Magnet Plant in Andhra Pradesh
Japanese advanced materials company Proterial has announced plans to invest ₹2,250 crore in setting up a rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The plant will be established at Achutapuram in Anakapalli district and will have an annual production capacity of 1.2 kilotonnes of sintered neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets.
These high-performance magnets are critical components in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, industrial machinery, electronics, aerospace applications, and defence equipment. The project received approval from the State Investment Promotion Committee and aligns with India’s efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported rare earth products.
The initiative gains added importance amid concerns over global supply chain vulnerabilities and the dominance of a few countries in the rare earth sector. The project is expected to create employment opportunities, promote technological expertise, and deepen industrial cooperation between India and Japan.
GRSE Granted Prestigious Navratna Status
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), one of India’s leading defence shipyards, has been awarded Navratna status by the Government of India. The recognition provides the company with greater financial and operational flexibility, enabling it to undertake larger investments and strategic expansion initiatives.
The Department of Public Enterprises conferred the status on 19 June 2026 after evaluating the company’s consistent financial and operational performance. GRSE has demonstrated remarkable growth in recent years, with revenue rising from ₹1,754 crore in FY 2021-22 to ₹7,002 crore in FY 2025-26. During the same period, profit after tax increased substantially from ₹190 crore to ₹748 crore.
The shipyard delivered eight warships during FY 2025-26, including INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray. Since its establishment, GRSE has supplied 118 warships, with 80 of them joining the Indian Navy. The achievement reflects the company’s evolution into a major contributor to India’s maritime security and indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.
India and China Discuss Improving Bilateral Relations
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in New Delhi to discuss the future course of India-China relations. The discussions focused on promoting mutual respect, strengthening cooperation, and implementing understandings reached by the leadership of both countries.
Wang Yi emphasized that India and China should view each other as partners rather than competitors and work together to advance economic development and regional stability. He stressed the importance of respecting each other’s core interests and managing sensitive issues carefully, particularly border-related concerns.
Both sides expressed support for restoring dialogue mechanisms and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, finance, law enforcement, and media exchanges. Ajit Doval highlighted the need for stable, predictable, and constructive bilateral relations as a foundation for building trust and enhancing mutual understanding.
The meeting reflected ongoing efforts by both nations to gradually normalize relations and strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest.
