Territorial Army ASB 2026: Important Dates

Applications are being accepted from 27 July to 25 August 2026, while the interview is scheduled for September 2026. The completed application must reach the Directorate General Territorial Army by 25 August 2026.

Vacancy

The notification specifies five Provincial Territorial Army vacancies:

  • Male: 4
  • Female: 1

The number of vacancies may change depending on organisational requirements.

Who Can Apply?

This recruitment is specifically for ex-service commissioned officers. Applicants must be Indian citizens under the main eligibility provision, and they must be gainfully employed or self-employed. Serving personnel of the Regular Armed Forces, Police, GREF, paramilitary and similar organisations are not eligible under the advertisement.

Age Limit

Candidates must be:

18 to 42 years of age on the date of application. The detailed instructions also provide for possible relaxation of the upper age limit at the discretion of the Chief of the Army Staff.

Educational Qualification

The minimum educational qualification is a graduation degree from a recognised university.

Physical and Medical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit and medically suitable. The detailed instructions specify the medical category as S1H1A1P1E1.

Selection Process

The selection process begins with screening by the Army Headquarters Selection Board (ASB) at the Directorate General Territorial Army in New Delhi.

Candidates recommended by the ASB are required to undergo:

  1. Medical Examination at the Armed Forces Clinic, New Delhi
  2. Police Verification
  3. Final selection based on fulfilment of the prescribed requirements.

The notification clearly states that the selection process for this recruitment is interview-based.

Territorial Army Training

Selected candidates must successfully complete Pre-Commission Training as prescribed under the applicable Territorial Army rules.

In addition, candidates are required to undergo an Annual Training Camp of two months every year, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

The Territorial Army follows a part-time service concept, rather than a conventional full-time military career. Officers have civilian professions while remaining available for prescribed military training and service.

Rank, Pay and Promotion

Successful candidates are commissioned initially in the rank of Lieutenant, subject to completion of the prescribed training and other requirements.

The notification states that Territorial Army officers receive pay and allowances comparable to Regular Army officers when they are embodied for training or military service.

Promotion up to Lieutenant Colonel is generally through time scale, subject to the applicable criteria, while promotion to Colonel and Brigadier is through selection.

The prescribed service periods include:

  • Captain: 4 years of commissioned service
  • Major: 8 years
  • Lieutenant Colonel: 15 years
  • Colonel: Selection Grade
  • Brigadier: Selection Grade

Previous qualifying commissioned service in the Regular Army, Navy and Air Force is also taken into account for these periods.

Important Eligibility Restrictions

Not every former officer is eligible. The detailed instructions state that officers who completed their tenure or opted for premature retirement may apply, whereas those who were removed, dismissed or resigned from service are not eligible.

Candidates must also provide accurate information. Concealing material facts or submitting false information can result in cancellation of candidature or removal from the Territorial Army after commissioning.

Documents Required

Applicants need to produce original documents along with self-attested copies at the interview. Important documents include:

  • Application Form
  • Release Order/Certificate
  • Release Medical Examination documents
  • Educational certificates
  • Physical fitness certificate
  • Identity proof
  • Domicile/residential proof
  • Proof of age
  • Service certificate
  • NOC from the employer, where applicable
  • PAN Card

Failure to produce required original documents can lead to cancellation of candidature.

Eligible ex-service commissioned officers must download the prescribed application form from the Indian Army website, complete it in their own handwriting and send it along with the required supporting documents to the Directorate General Territorial Army, New Delhi, through India Post.

The last date for receipt of applications is 25 August 2026. Applications that are incomplete, ineligible or received after the deadline will be rejected.
