World Maritime Day 2026
World Maritime Day is observed on 24 September 2026. The 2026–27 theme is “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.”
The theme, selected by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), focuses on putting international maritime regulations and conventions into practice. For the first time, the World Maritime Day theme is being observed for two consecutive years, 2026 and 2027.
International shipping carries more than 80% of global trade, highlighting the importance of maritime transport to the world economy. The sector provides an efficient and economical means of transporting cargo between countries, making maritime safety, security and efficiency important for global economic activity.

Bhikaji Cama Birth Anniversary
Bhikaji Cama, popularly known as the “Mother of the Indian Revolution,” was born on 24 September 1861 in Bombay. Her 165th birth anniversary is being observed in 2026.
She is remembered for unfurling a tricolour of green, saffron and red at the International Socialist Congress in Stuttgart, Germany, on 22 August 1907. It is described in the source as the first Indian national flag displayed on foreign soil.
By raising the flag before an international audience, Madam Cama drew attention to India’s demand for self-rule.
She was permitted to return to India in 1935, at the age of 75, and died in Bombay on 13 August 1936. According to her will, a substantial portion of her estate was given to the Avabai Petit Trust, which supports girls.

The award will be presented in Indore on 28 September 2026 as part of a two-day programme commemorating the birth anniversary of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Born on 22 January 1968 in Lucknow, Moitra began his professional career in advertising before entering film music and background-score composition.

Rajat Sharma Re-Elected as NBDA President for 2026–27
Rajat Sharma, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India TV, has been unanimously re-elected as the President of the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA) for 2026–27.
The election took place during the association’s board meeting held on 23 September 2026.
The development followed the 19th Annual General Meeting of the NBDA, during which the association’s Board of Directors was also announced. The board includes Jayant Mammen Mathew of MM TV.

Soorya Krishnamoorthy, Former ISRO Scientist Dies
