Captain Smit Machchhar: Indian Pilot Who Helped Save 174 Lives on Flydubai Flight
Flydubai Flight FZ1073, carrying 174 people, was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when a serious incident reportedly occurred inside the cockpit. According to reports, the co-pilot attacked Captain Machchhar and allegedly attempted to interfere with the aircraft’s controls. The aircraft subsequently made an emergency landing at Tabuk in Saudi Arabia.
Captain Machchhar’s Role During the Emergency
Despite suffering serious injuries, Captain Machchhar reportedly managed to activate the mechanism that opened the cockpit door. This allowed passengers and other crew members to enter the cockpit and help overpower the attacker.
The aircraft had experienced a sharp descent during the incident. Passengers and crew responded quickly, while additional pilots who were travelling on the aircraft assisted in stabilising and safely operating the aircraft. The plane eventually landed at Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia.
The passengers were subsequently transported to Tel Aviv on another flydubai flight. Reports said all 174 people on board survived the incident.
Benjamin Netanyahu Praises the Indian Pilot
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly praised Captain Machchhar for his actions during the emergency. Netanyahu described him as a “true hero” and highlighted his courage despite being seriously injured.
