On International Women’s Day Meet the stellar women achievers of the Indian Armed Forces who have been inspired by their grit and determination. These great women, usher in the hope that every girl has the inherent potential to realise her aspirations.

Also, a group of women army officers expressed their views on gender equality and women empowerment while sharing their experiences during their journey of achieving multiple accomplishments.

  • She belongs to Reasi, Jammu & Kashmir. She joined the OTA Chennai in 2018 after achieving AIR-1 in her SSB interview. She Led The Women Team To De-Launch 60 Feet Bailey Bridge In A Day.

  • She Is The Part Of the Air Traffic Controller At the Missamari Army Aviation Base. An Expert In Operating The Indian Army Choppers And Heron Mark-1 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle At An Aviation Squadron In Missamari, Assam.

  • Deputy DG Of MNS She Has Been Bestowed With The National Florence Nightingale Award 2020. Which Is The Highest National Distinction A Nurse Can Achieve For Selfless Devotion And Exceptional Professionalism.

Captain Sariya Abbasi

  • A Troop Commander With An Army Air Defence Regiment Deployed Near The Contested LAC In Tawang Sector. Her Unit Is One Of The First AD Regiments In The Country To Be Equipped With Upgraded L70 Guns. She passed out from OTA Chennai in 2017.

Lieutenant Manu Garg

  • A Women Officer Of 13 Engineer Regiment Was The Proud Recipient Of The Prestigious Silver Grenade Award And General-Officer-Commanding-in-Chief Army Training Command (ARTRAC) Award In Young Officers 151 Course At College Of Military Engineering, Pune.

Major Aaina Rana

  • She becomes the 1st woman Indian army officer to assume the command of a Road Construction Company, in the challenging Himalayan region, responsible for road connectivity to Indo- China Borders.

Captain Deepsikha Chettri

  • She is only the 2nd women officer from Sikkim to ever serve the Indian Army. However, she is not just an army officer, but a doctor too. She has marched in an arena, where only men are seen more frequently.

Captain Ruchi Sharma

  • Commissioned in 1996 in the Army Ordinance Course after completion of training at OTA, Chennai. she created the history by qualifying as the 1st woman paratrooper. The challenges of becoming an operational paratrooper are many which include running 40 km with a load of 10 kg on the back during training.

Captain Divya Ajith Kumar

  • A young lady of 21 years receiving the “Sword Of Honour” and the Best All-Round Cadet Award in a combined course of men and women was something unforeseen or unimaginable but for one Divya. She led an all-women contingent of 154 women officers during Republic Day in 2015.

Lt Col Mitali Madhumita

  • India’s 1st female officer to receive the Sena Medal for gallantry, She was leading the Army’s English Language Training Team in Kabul, was the first officer to reach the Indian Embassy in Kabul that came under attack by suicide bombers in February 2010.

Maj Anjana Bhaduria

  • Batchmate of Maj Priya Jhingan of WSES-1 course at OTA she was the 1st female officer in the Indian Army to win the gold medal. Her brother was hesitant to allow her to go for training in Chennai, but her determination threw all the obstacles away.

Maj Priya Jhingan

  • As women were not recruited for the posts of a commissioned officer at the time, she wrote a letter directly to the Chief of Army Staff for allowing the same. Cadet number 001 at the OTA, Priya served for 10 years in the army and always came up strong for any of her cases.
