Defence Ministry Signs Contracts Worth ₹802 Crore
The Ministry of Defence inked two contracts for procurement of 697 Bogie Open Military Wagons at ₹473 crore with Jupiter Wagons Limited and procurement of 56 Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment Mark II at a cost of ₹329 crore with BEML Ltd. The BOM Wagons and MMME will be produced with equipment and sub-system sourced from indigenous manufacturers, giving a boost to the indigenous manufacturing and participation of the private sector in defence production, the defence ministry said in a statement.
BOM wagons, designed by Research Design and Standard Organization are specialist wagons used by the Indian Army for mobilisation of the Army units. BOM wagons are used to transport light vehicles, Artillery Guns, BMPs, Engineering Equipment etc. from their peacetime locations to operational areas.
MMME has been designed to operate cross country with complete load of stores and carry out marking of minefields with minimal time and manpower employment, as per the defence ministry. The equipment is based on an in-service High Mobility Vehicle having advanced mechanical and electrical systems, which will reduce the timings for minefield marking during operations and will enhance the operational capability of Indian Army.
Jupiter Wagons Bags Contract Worth Rs 1,617 Crore
Jupiter Wagons Ltd said it has bagged a contract worth Rs 1,617 crore from the Ministry of Railways. The order is for the supply of 4,000 wagons. Jupiter Group is a manufacturer of railway wagons, components for passenger coaches, and alloy steel casting for rolling stacks and tracks. It also manufactures application-based load bodies for commercial vehicles, other products include marine containers and refrigerated containers.
Record Defence Production
The value of defence production in FY 2022-23 crossed the figure of Rs one lakh crore for the first time ever. It was Rs 95,000 crore in FY 2021-22. The GOI is continuously working with defence industries and their associations to remove the challenges faced by them and promote defence production in the country.
Record Defence Exports
Through consistent policy initiatives of the Government and tremendous contribution of the defence industry, defence exports reached an all-time high of approx. Rs 16,000 crore in FY 2022-23, almost Rs 3,000 crore more than the previous financial year.
