During a recent visit to the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), emphasized the commitment of the Indian Armed Forces to tri-service integration and modernizing defense capabilities. The visit, which took place on a Saturday, involved an in-depth tour of MILIT’s state-of-the-art training facilities, showcasing advanced military technologies and high-tech laboratories.
Air Marshal Dixit focused on enhancing operational readiness and promoting smooth coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. His itinerary included discussions with senior officers from all three services, where he reviewed critical technologies such as naval torpedoes and other strategic assets. The centerpiece of the visit was a tri-service meeting aimed at boosting joint operations, exploring innovative solutions, and addressing future challenges facing the military.
During the visit, a ceremonial exchange of mementos underscored the collaborative spirit among the services. In his address, Air Marshal Dixit reiterated the importance of developing a united and technologically advanced military to effectively combat contemporary security threats. He remarked, “This visit reaffirms our commitment to building a mission-ready and tech-enabled armed forces,” highlighting the necessity for integrated planning and indigenous innovation.
MILIT, under the Ministry of Defence, serves as a leading tri-service training institution, fostering the professional development of selected officers from the Indian Armed Forces as well as from friendly foreign nations for command and staff roles. The institute confers an M.Sc in Military Technology in collaboration with Pune University and plays a vital role in the nation’s #Atmanirbharta initiative, aimed at achieving self-reliance and technological empowerment in defense.
The expansive MILIT campus includes a Technical Complex housing 51 laboratories and a Residential Complex featuring an Officers’ Mess and sports facilities, alongside educational establishments like Kendriya Vidyalaya.
Initially established in 1952 as the Institute of Armament Studies, MILIT transitioned into an independent entity in 2012, following its separation from the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT). Since then, it has evolved into an essential center for advanced military education and technological innovation.
Concluding his visit, Air Marshal Dixit imparted a robust message of unity and modernization, underlining the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff’s goal of cultivating an agile, innovative, and interoperable military force in alignment with national defense priorities.
