Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, the Army Commander of the Western Command, conducted a significant visit to the Bani–Macchedi Sector in the Kathua district. The purpose of this visit was to assess the security situation in the area and to commend the troops for their commendable efforts in a recent counter-terrorism operation.
During the visit, Lt Gen Katiyar took a moment to recognize the bravery of Sepoy XXX from the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment, who played a pivotal role in eliminating a notorious terrorist associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). This operation involved a close-quarter encounter and showcased exceptional courage, as the soldier risked his life to ensure the safety of others. The Army Commander extended his appreciation to the entire team for their relentless pursuit of the terrorist over several days and the meticulous execution of the operation.
The terrorist, identified as Usman, was neutralized by the Indian Army in Parhetar, Kathua district, on January 23, 2026, around 5 PM. This successful operation was the outcome of sustained intelligence-led strategies, reinforcing the efficacy of military operations in the region.
During discussions with the Brigade Commander, Lt Gen Katiyar received updates on the continuing strategies aimed at maintaining control over the region. Plans include intensified surveillance and proactive military operations, alongside measures designed to thwart any potential terrorist movements.
Emphasizing the necessity for high vigilance and an aggressive counter-terrorism posture, Lt Gen Katiyar reaffirmed the Western Command’s commitment to ensure peace and security through decisive and professional military actions. His visit underscored the strategic focus on effective military responses to emerging threats, contributing to the broader stability of the region.
